From the Winemaker
May 2013 - Vintage is now over and what a busy eight weeks it has been. It was a long, dry summer, that led into a dry autumn - even by Australian standards - and the continued warm weather, coupled with moderate yields, resulted in the fruit being ready to pick a little earlier than 'average', making this one of the quickest vintages I can remember. Our Barossa Valley Mourvedre came in about 3 weeks earlier than it did in 2012. Despite the early ripening, the length of the warm weather (and in the main, the cool nights) meant flavour and sugar accumulation was steady, but very even, and the resultant quality of the fruit looked excellent. Cheers Matt
