Il Piano McLaren Vale Fiano 2025
Hand-picked and gently pressed, fermented in a mix of stainless and seasoned French oak, then rested on fine lees for texture. In the glass: pale straw; on the nose: lemon zest, green pear, a hint of fennel; on the palate: citrus and grapefruit with refreshing natural acidity, a little almond-meal creaminess, and a mouth-watering, saline finish. It’s the sort of bottle that disappears quickly on a warm evening.
Technical Notes:
Harvested: 26 February & 3 March 2025
Bottled: August 2025
Alcohol: 12.5%
Cellaring: Drink now to 2035 with careful cellaring
Viticulture: Two blocks, young vines on Blewitt Springs sand (first crop, low yield) and a mature vineyard on deep red clay just west of the winery. A warm, dry season suited Fiano; careful irrigation kept fruit fresh and turgid to harvest.
Vinification & maturation: No skin contact; portions barrel- and tank-fermented. Young-block juice to oak; second block to both oak and stainless. Indigenous yeast, fine solids, no malolactic. 25% barrel-fermented in seasoned French oak, five months on lees, blended and bottled after light filtration.
